Meet Seong Woo-Jin (성우진) - the star of sanders sourdough

While my husband and I were living in Seoul, South Korea, I picked up sourdough in my spare time. I was really struggling to get my bread to rise so a friend offered me some of her starter. She had been gifted hers by a mutual friend whose grandfather in Alaska had kept it in his family for generations! My husband (Caleb) and my friends’ husband both worked at the same school in Korea, so she sent it to the school so that Caleb could bring it home to me. But, Caleb’s students were absolutely fascinated by the concept of a sourdough starter and they immediately gave it both a Korean name and an English name (Seong Woo-Jin and David). And the name stuck! We are so glad to have kept the name because now we get to talk about Korea every time we share our starter!
